Japan 2011 • first weekend

As always, this country never ceases to amaze me. We just got back from the mountains of Kusatsu where we spent the night at a hot springs resort after visiting the Sudo family graves in the city of Gunma. Had an amazing traditional Japanese dinner last night.

I am still adjusting to the time, I was awake at 4am this morning and could not go back to sleep, so we headed down to the public baths that were empty, and I went to the outdoor small bath and relaxed for a good half hour. Although this town reeks of sulfur from the hot springs, it is a beautiful resort town with winding tiny streets that are somehow still two way.

We were in a Lincoln town car and when we left, it just seemed insane, driving around the tiny packed streets at the speed we were going. Imagine driving in to pier 39 in a big Lincoln going 30 miles per hour relying on the fact that people will stay out of your path. That is what it was like (in other words, it was awesome). Just got back to Tokyo. Amazing time so far, more to come.
